It allows the reader to \u00abhear\u00bb elements of the soundscapes of Amsterdam, Dortmund, Lw\u00f3w\/Lviv, Warsaw and Breslau\/Wroc\u0142aw that are bound up with the traumatising experiences of violence, threats and death. Exploiting to the full methodologies and research tools developed in the fields of sound and soundscape studies, the authors analyse their reflections on autobiographical texts and art. The studies demonstrate the role urban sounds played in the inhabitants\u2019 forging a sense of identity as they adapted to new living conditions. The chapters also shed light on the ideological forces at work in the creation of urban sound space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/czasopisma.uwr.edu.pl\/pkult\/issue\/view\/859\">Sensitive Sound Recordings<\/a> &#8211; monographic issue of the journal &#8220;Prace Kulturoznawcze&#8221;, edited by Renata Ta\u0144czuk and S\u0142awomir Wieczorek<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We define \u201csensitive sound recordings\u201d as ones linked to the experiences of trauma, exclusion, and injustice of those whose voices were recorded, as well as the communities to which they belonged. They are correlates of the \u201csensitive heritage\u201d and sometimes the \u201cdifficult heritage\u201d (S. Macdonald) of communities. Broadening the scope of the term \u201csensitive recordings\u201d in relation to the above-mentioned definition, we could also include recordings that violate taboos, for example, in some cultural contexts, recordings of religious ceremonies or intimate situations. Such recordings, sometimes because of the manner and context of their creation, confront the listener and user with a whole spectrum of complex problems related to the right to collect, dispose, and listen to them, as well as the social, political and ethical consequences of their reuse in research, educational, and artistic prac-tices.
